TANGERANG, BANTEN – On Thursday(11th September 2025), Swiss German University (SGU) staff attended a practical workshop on leveraging Google’s AppSheet and Looker Studio. The session was led by Google for Education Certified Trainers: Aulia Budikartika, B.Ed. and Sasmita Wulandari, B.Ed. The core objective was to demonstrate how these no-code and data visualization tools can empower both academic and administrative staff to build custom solutions and make data-driven decisions efficiently.
AppSheet: Creating Custom Apps Without Code

AppSheet was introduced as a powerful no-code platform that allows anyone to turn existing data from sources like Google Sheets into fully functional mobile and web applications. This eliminates the need for complex programming, enabling staff to create solutions for their specific needs quickly, which includes:
- Automated Attendance Tracking: Staff members can create a simple app where participants can check in for events using their phones.
- Resource Management: An app could be developed for booking university resources like meeting rooms, laboratory equipment, or vehicles, providing a clear, centralized system for reservations.
- Simple Administrative Workflows: Departments can build apps for managing internal processes like submitting leave requests, IT support tickets, or small reimbursement claims, complete with approval steps.
Looker Studio: Transforming Data into Insightful Reports

Looker Studio was presented as a dynamic tool for data visualization. It connects to various data sources to transform raw numbers into interactive, easy-to-understand dashboards and reports.
The app can be used to:
- Analyze Academic Performance: Program coordinators can create dashboards to visualize student grades, attendance records, and course progression. This helps identify at-risk students or evaluate curriculum effectiveness by seeing which subjects have the highest success rates.
- Simplify Administrative Reporting: The admissions or finance departments can build live dashboards to track enrollment numbers, monitor budget spending against targets, or analyze alumni engagement data, making reporting much more efficient and insightful than static spreadsheets.
The workshop concluded that by adopting AppSheet and Looker Studio, SGU staff can enhance their own productivity.
