Google Classroom & DIY Learning Videos Workshop

On Thursday, 13 February 2025, the Academic Development Center (ADC) hosted two exciting workshops designed to enhance teaching skills and empower SGU lecturers to utilize technology effectively in their classrooms. Both sessions were filled with engaging content, hands-on activities, and valuable takeaways.

Here’s a quick recap of what we covered:

Workshop 1: Google Classroom 101 for Beginners (10:00–12:00)

This session focused on maximizing the capabilities of Google Classroom to simplify teaching and enhance classroom management. Participants learned how to:

  • Create and share assignments with multiple classes seamlessly.
  • Schedule posts and announcements across various classes.
  • Use originality reports to guide students’ critical thinking.
  • Set up and join Meet video calls directly from Google Classroom.
  • Create rubrics to maintain consistent and transparent grading.

The facilitator also shared practical tips to make workflows smoother, helping lecturers save time and effort while improving student engagement.

Workshop 2: DIY Learning Video Making (13:00–15:00)

The second workshop was all about creativity and technology. Participants explored how to craft engaging learning videos to support their teaching efforts. Highlights included:

  • Understanding what makes a good learning video—clear communication, engaging visuals, and thoughtful structure.
  • Creating simple animation videos using Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Editing videos effortlessly with Google Vids, a user-friendly video editing tool.

This hands-on session provided lecturers with the confidence to create educational videos tailored to their students’ needs, even with minimal technical expertise.
